Abstract

Refractory materials which have not been mixed with compounds reacting with them or subjected to chemical reaction, shrinkage, or melting, are impregnated with melted pitch or bitumen by the application of a vacuum or of pressure. According to examples, rock dolomite and silico-aluminous bricks are completely dried, subjected to a high vacuum to remove all occluded gas, and then impregnated with melted bitumen at a pressure of 10 Kg. per square centimetre.
