Abstract

1428641 Sintered magnesia; refractories NORTON CO 19 March 1973 [20 March 1972] 13071/73 Headings C1A and C1J Fused magnesia grain containing up to 3000 p.p.m. of boron is mixed with 0À5 to 7% of an agent containing titania, zirconia or alumina or mixtures thereof and heated at 950-1275‹ C. to lower its sinter index by reaction of the boron with said agent. The additive is preferably selected from zirconia, alumina, titania, fused zircon, a fused mixture of alumina and zircon or magnesium zirconate. The magnesia and the additive are preferably ground to a size of less than 325 mesh. 6% of TiO 2 or ZrO 2 are described.
