Abstract
472,027. Glass manufacture. ARNOLD, C. (Non-Metallic Minerals, Inc.) March 1, 1937, No. 6103. [Class 56] Limestone which has been calcined with an aluminous flux is used as a batch material for making glass. A limestone of high calcium content, or one containing magnesia, is used and it is crushed and screened to a suitable size. To the screened material, a small amount, say 3-8 per cent, of aluminous material such as felspar or bauxite clay, is added and the mixture is burned in a suitable kiln to form a clinker which may be crushed if desired. A suitable batch for machine-made bottles may include 1000 parts by weight of sand, 375 parts of soda ash, and 115 parts of the fluxed lime.
