591,450. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 22, 1944, No. 3257. Convention date, . Feb. 25, 1943. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] A luminescent material is produced by preparing a mixture of zinc oxide, beryllium oxide manganese carbonate and silicic acid, in proportions such that the mixture, after being fired, will have the last two constituents completely converted to manganese oxide and silica and will be a complex having a molar ratio (ZnO+BeO): Si O2 of from 1.8: 1 to 1.9 : 1, the ratio ZnO : Si02 being from 1.6 : 1 to 1.8 : 1 and the amount of manganese oxide present being not more than 4 per cent of the total weight of the complex. The mixture is then fired at a temperature.of 1220-1260‹. C. An excess amount of beryllium oxide or magnesia may be added. This surplus amount will be uncombined chemically but will be dispersed through the complex. The firing period should be two hours. Specification 546,151 is referred to..
