Abstract
577,693. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 24, 1944, No. 9995. Convention date, May 28, 1943. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] Luminescent material comprises an alkaline earth metal phosphate activated with thallium. In its preparation calcium nitrate, ammonium phosphate and thallous hydroxide are mixed and heated together, producing calcium phosphate activated with thallium. A sulphate such as ammonium sulphate should also be present to neutralize any excess calcium oxide that may be formed. Excess calcium oxide in the batch ingredients is desirable to ensure the formation of calcium orthophosphate.
