Abstract
In the preparation of a calcium phosphate phosphor, [Group XL (a)], a solution of cerous nitrate is purified in weak hydrochloric acid with hydrogen sulphide, a large excess of ammonium hydroxide added (plus tartaric acid to keep the cerium in solution), and the solution treated with ammonium sulphide. Purified cerium phosphate is then precipitated by adding dibasic ammonium phosphate (previously purified with ammonium sulphide). The solutions are reacted hot (70-90 DEG C.).
