Abstract

In the production of loose fur suitable for the manufacture of felt, fur is carrotted on or off the skin with an acidified aqueous solution comprising formaldehyde (e.g. in a concentration of 1/2 -5 per cent), and having a pH not exceeding 1.0, preferably between 0.5 and -0.5. A volatile mineral acid, such as hydrochloric acid, may be used, and the solution may contain a salt, such as sodium chloride. Specifications 293,301, [Class 81 (ii)], and 548,061, [Group VIII], are referred to.
