Abstract
514,417. Organo - arsenic compounds. GROVES, W. W. (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.) May 6, 1938, No. 13566. [Class 2 (iii)] 2-Mercaptobenzimidazole-4 and 5-arsenoxides are prepared by reducing the corresponding arsonic acids, e.g., with phenylhydrazine or with sulphur dioxide to which hydriodic acid may be added. The products possess therapeutic properties. An example is given. 2-mercaptobenzimidazole-4-arsonic acid is obtained by reacting 2: 3-diaminobenzene-1- arsonic acid with potassium xanthate and treating with a lead salt to split off sulphur.
