Abstract
Clay is precipitated from aqueous suspension by a flocculating reagent which comprises casein in the sol condition. An acid or salt of flocculating properties such as sulphuric or hydrochloric acid or alum must also be present unless the clay possesses an acid reaction. In operating the process, the casein sol and the acid &c. are preferably added separately to the clay suspension, but they may be first mixed together if desired, preferably with the addition of a protector such as a small quantity of a gelatin or glue sol. Examples of operation are given and Specification 433,416 is referred to.
