Abstract

Calcium carbonate is obtained in a finely divided form by reacting with agitation a soluble calcium salt and a soluble carbonate and maintaining a pH value above 8 and preferably of 9,5 to 11,5, as by the addition of caustic soda. Alternatively limestone or precipitated calcium carbonate may be subjected to attrition in an alkaline solution at a pH value of 9,5--11,5. The product may be used as a filler for rubber, paint, dentifrices, paper, &c.
