Abstract

Water-resistant neutral bodies in the form of lumps having the formula m.CaCO3.nCaSO3 are obtained by treating with sulphur dioxide or a gas containing it shaped bodies produced by working up with water a plastic paste consisting of calcium hydroxide or carbonate or a mixture of these two substances, and, if necessary, after the desired sulphur dioxide content is reached, treating the bodies with carbon dioxide or a gas containing it until neutrality is obtained, the products then being heated above 100 DEG C., say to 150--250 DEG C., until the dehydration necessary for their stability in water has been effected.
