Abstract

Leather waste in admixture with acid, such as sulphuric is hydrolyzed at a temperature above 60 DEG C and the mass neutralized by the addition of a salt or hydroxide of calcium or potassium mixed with extracted bark or sand. The hydrolysis is preferably effected under pressure by means of steam.
