Abstract

2,3-Dichlorobutadiene-1,3 is prepared by reacting 1,2,3-trichlorobutane-3 with a mixture of 75 to 90 parts by weight of methanol, 15 to 5 parts by weight of water, and 10 to 5 parts by weight of sodium hydroxide, the mol. ratio of sodium hydroxide to trichlorobutene being from 0.7:1 to 1:1. The reaction may be carried out at a temperature of 20 DEG to 100 DEG C., and may be completed in 3 minutes by agitation at 40 DEG to 60 DEG C. The product may be polymerized.
