Abstract
In a process for the preparation of tropolone a 2-halotropone is reacted with a mixture of formic acid and water under the influence of heat. In an example tropolone is obtained by boiling 2-chloro-tropolone with formic acid and water under reflux and reduced pressure, precipitating the product as the sodium salt and acidifying an aqueous solution thereof.
