Abstract

A compost for the culture of plants is made by charging wood-waste, e.g. sawdust, under reduced pressure with a concentrated aqueous solution of nutrient salts and composting the treated wood-waste with lime, e.g. limestone or calcium hydroxide, and with an aerating material such as coke-dust, sand or a mixture thereof. Hoof and horn meal and peat may be incorporated in the compost. The nutrient salts specified are ammonium sulphate, potassium nitrate and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate.
