Abstract

A composition for improving alkaline clay soil comprises a humic substance of slightly acid reaction (i.e. having an acidity not exceeding pH6) having a high water absorbing power, impregnated with a solution of a ferric salt admixed with an ammonium salt. Humic substances specified are peat, lignite and humiferous earths such as turf. Inorganic salts specified are ferric sulphate, ammonium sulphate and ferric alum. The solution of inorganic salts may be acidified with sulphuric acid. The impregnated substance may be dried and admixed with diluting, fertilizing and growth-promoting substances.
