Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a soil conditioner by drying without losing inorganic and organic fertilizer components in sludge, sludge is mechanically dehydrated in advance, then added with quick lime while utilizing its exothermic reaction and water absorbing reaction as dehydration treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Raw sludge is mechanically dehydrated to provide active sludge which still contain about 40% of water. The active sludge, if added with quick lime, allows the quick lime and contained water to react each other to produce a large quantity of heat. Such exothermic reaction dries the sludge producing powdered slaked lime in nearly anhydrous condition. The reaction causes nitrogen, phosphoric acid, and potassium to transform into soluble state, and fibrous material into semi-carbonaceous condition. Thus, the produced slaked lime is useful as an excellent soil conditioner.
