Abstract
In making a litter for poultry, the litter is subjected to a composting treatment and opt. dried before use. Pref. exhausted mushroom fertiliser is composted and dried to a moisture content of 30% or less. The composted material may be mixed with a fibrous material such as dung, etc., before drying. Fibrous materials with a moisture content of >=40% may be dewatered before use., e.g. by pressing or centrifuging, and is opt. comminuted. The prod. is pref. spread into layers 5-30 cm thick for drying and may be mixed with calcite (aphrite) before use. The composting process saves considerable amounts of energy which are expended in drying uncomposted materials for use as a litter for poultry. The prods. give excellent results in the growing of chickens, etc.
