Abstract

Delayed release fertiliser product contains an open or semi-open celled natural or synthetic foam impregnated with an organic or mineral fertiliser, such as yeast or dried blood and also trace elements, hormones, insecticides and fungicides. The foam may be, eg. polyurethane but is pref. urea-formaldehyde which degrades slowly to liberate N-into the soil. The fertiliser content is generally 0.1-5% for minerals and 0.1-10% for organic fertilisers. Bacterial accelerators normally constitute 0.1-5% of the original mass and trace elements are 0.1-3%. The prod. is made by preparing the foam, breaking it into fine particles, and then adding the fertiliser components.
