Abstract
A process of forming a vegetative layer particularly on steep rocky ground is characterized in that a carrier layer of straw, hay or like fibrous organic material which tends to rot and form humus is first secured to the ground and a nutrient medium provided with seeds and/or sproutable plant elements is then introduced into the layer. The carrier layer may be secured to the ground by means of a wire mesh, nails or pegs, or be bonded to the ground by an adhesive e.g. a cold asphalt emulsion. The nutrient medium, which consists of a mixture of peat, loam and fertilizer, may be poured on to the carrier in a liquid suspension or be blown in the dry state on to the carrier and secured thereto by an adhesive.
