Abstract
In the production of Portland cement or the like, such as puzzolanas, by the wet method, one or more colloids, which are stable in dispersions having an alkaline reaction, is or are added to the raw materials and the pH value of the slurry is adjusted, if necessary, to be between 7,5 and 10; in this way it is stated that slurries of low water content but of low viscosity may be obtained. The degree of alkalinity may be increased by adding, for example, caustic alkalies, soda or lime, or decreased by adding, for example, carbon dioxide or flue gases rich in carbon dioxide. The control of the pH value may be effected by the colloids added; colloids specified are black lye from sulphate cellulose production, sulphite refuse acid, peat, mud, brown coal (without or after treatment by alkali), colloidal silicic acid, aluminium hydrate, soap for example resin soap or potash soap, colloidal fat and resin acids and various colloidal refuse products of acid neutral or alkaline reaction. In examples, ,075 per cent brown coal and ,05 per cent black lye from sulphate cellulose production, based on the solid constituents of the slurry, are added to the slurry.
