Abstract
Aluminium and iron hydroxide gels are prepared by slowly adding a dilute solution of ammonia to dilute aluminium or ferric chloride solutions at a temperature of about 35 DEG C. The ammonia solution is added in slight excess and the precipitate washed a number of times to remove ammonium chloride. The gel so obtained is diluted with water, mixed with colloidal kaolin (and flavouring materials) and passed through a homogenizer to produce a dispersion intended for medicinal purposes.ALSO:An intestinal absorbent medicine is prepared by dispensing kaolin of colloidal fineness in an aqueous dispersion of an inorganic hydroxide gel in particular aluminium or iron hydroxide. Aluminium (or iron) hydroxide is prepared by slowly adding a dilute solution of ammonia to dilute aluminium chloride (ferric chloride) solution at a temperature of about 35 DEG C. The ammonia solution is added in slight excess and the precipitate washed a number of times to remove ammonium chloride. The gel is diluted with water and colloidal kaolin stirred in to form a thin cream. Flavouring is added and the mixture passed through a mechanical homogenizer.
