Abstract

Cosmetic and therapeutic preparations are prepared by subjecting a colloidal sulphur solution containing polythionic acid or polythionates, e.g., Walkenroder solution to a decomposition treatment by adding thereto a salt solution such as potassium chloride, filtering off the aggregated particles and admixing the resultant filtrate with cosmetic and/or therapeutic materials, which are therapeutically and chemically compatible thereto and do not contain sulphur or consist solely of water. Stabilizers of the type described in Specification 632,927 may also be added. The example describes a skin wash containing such an aqueous polythionate solution of pH 1.5 stabilized by the addition of tyrosine and cupric nitrate to which is added glycerin, alcohol and oil of roses.
