Abstract

Symmetrical dialkyl ureas are made by heating monoalkylamines with carbon dioxide under pressure, the unreacted components (containing the alkylamine salt of the corresponding alkylcarbamic acid) being separated from the dialkyl urea solution, taken up in water and again subjected to the reaction under pressure. An example shows the preparation of N:N1-dimethylurea from methylamine in this way. Specification 622,955 is referred to.
