Abstract

The invention comprises 7-aminothiazolo (5 : 4 - d)pyrimidine and 5 : 7 - diaminothiazolo (5 : 4 - d) pyrimidine of the general formula: <FORM:0786007/IV (a)/1> where R is amino, or hydrogen. The compounds are made by treating 4 : 5-diamino-6-mercaptopyrimidine or 2 : 4 : 5-triamino-7-mercaptopyrimidine with concentrated formic acid. Examples are given. Starting material. 4 : 5-Diamino-6-mercaptopyrimidine is made by heating 4-amino-6-chloro - 5 - nitropyrimidine with aqueous potassium hydrosulphide while passing in hydrogen sulphide.
