Abstract

672,518. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 1, 1950 [Aug. 15, 1949]; No. 19197/50. Class 39 (i). A fluorescent composition of manganese and lead-activated calcium silicate is prepared by mixing compounds of calcium and silicon, which upon heating react to form calcium silicate, with activating proportions of manganese and lead compounds and firing the mixture at a temperature of approximately 1000-1200‹ C. with additions of a catalyst consisting of both a fluoride and a chloride of the group consisting of fluorides and chlorides of calcium and ammonium. Single or double firing may be employed. In the case of the latter a fluoride may be added before the first firing and a chloride added before the second firing. Specific examples are given. Specification 577,694 is referred to.
