Abstract
605,398. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and WELLS, R. S. Dec. 21, 1945, No. 34694. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] A luminescent material comprises the fluorophosphate or fluoro-chloro-phosphate of strontium with antimony or antimony and manganese as activators. Strontium phosphate, preferably Sr3(PO4)2 is prepared by precipitation from Sr Cl2 and (NH4)2 HPO4. The substance is intimately mixed with strontium fluoride and antimony oxide (1-4 per cent), or its equivalent, and fired at between 1000‹ C. and 1250‹ C. The resulting compound preferably comprises 1 mol. of SrF2 and 3 mols of Sr3(PO4)2À Manganese may also be present as part activator, being added as the carbonate oxide to give up to 8 per cent manganese. Strontium fluoride may be replaced by up to 75 per cent of strontium chloride in equimolecular proportions. The resulting compounds are compared with those using manganese alone as activator.
