Abstract
617,390. Luminescent materials. ORBIT ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd., and THOMAS, H. J. Sept. 30, 1946, No. 29073. [Class 39 (i)] In preparing a manganese activated zinc borate a crystal-promoting material is added to the starting ingredients. The additives may be halides, sulphates, phosphates, ethylene glycol or glycerine. The manganese 1 per cent may itself be added in the form of the halide. The zinc borate is the orthoborate or one containing more zinc than the orthoborate, firing of the mixture of zinc oxide, boric acid, the flux, e.g. zinc chloride or ammonium sulphate and the manganese compound, e.g. manganese chloride or dioxide, being carried out at about 900‹ C. The fluorescence is predominantly long-wave, e.g. pink or salmonpink.
