Abstract
544,444. Fluorescent zinc silicate. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 9, 1940. No. 15041. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1939. [Class 1 (iii)] [Also in Group XL] An amorphous zinc silicate exhibiting yellow fluorescence is obtained by heating to a temperature not exceeding 850‹C. a mixture of zinc oxide and silica comprising an excess of either reactant or an inert substance such as alumina or magnesia, the mixture also containing 0.5-40 per cent. of a neutral metallic halide, e.g. potassium chloride. A manganese activator is included in the mixture. Specification 521,796, [Group XL], is referred to.
