Abstract
550,744. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 13, 1942, No. 484. Convention date, Jan. 16, 1941. [Class 39 (i)] In a mercury vapour lamp used in blue-printing a luminescent material is used consisting of. cerium activated calcium phosphate which will emit in the range 3200-4000A‹. The phosphate may be formed from calcium nitrate or chloride and ammonium phosphate ; cerium is added in the form of oxide, nitrate, sulphate or any compound which breaks down to the oxide on heating; and is between 2 to 20 per cent by weight of the phosphate. aThe mixture of calcium phosphate and cerium compound is fixed in hydrogen at a temperature between 950-1100‹C; fixing may be first in air and then in hydrogen. Tables giving relative brightness values depending on percentage of cerium are set out in. the description.
