Abstract

673,637. Luminescent materials. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd., ALDINGTON, J. N., and HARRISON, W. April 12, 1949 [April 12, 1948], No. 10102/48. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (i). A fluorescent material capable of being excited by the radiation in a low-pressure mercury vapour electric discharge lamp to give a " near white " light comprises a calcium halophosphate powder activated to produce blue fluorescence mixed with a calcium halophosphate powder activated to produce a warm white fluorescence, the proportions of the two powders being such that the colour of the light emitted by the mixture lies on or closely adjacent to that part of the straight line joining the points x=0.229, y=0.271 and x=0.430, y=0.377 which lies between the points x=0.296, y=0.306, corresponding to a temperature of about 7500‹ K., and x=0.430, y=0.377 on the standard chromaticity chart. These two powders are described in Specification 592,675 referred to. In examples described, 100 parts by weight of calcium halophosphate powder activated by antimony with the addition of 2 per cent manganese to give a warm white colour are mixed with 25, 40 or 120 parts by weight of calcium halophosphate powder activated by antimony to give a blue colour. The fluorescent material can be coated internally on the envelope of a low-pressure mercury vapour electric discharge lamp.
