Abstract

727,392. Luminescent materials. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd., DOHERTY, M. T., and SERGEANT, G. July 27, 1951 [Aug. 2, 1950], No. 19304/50. Class 39 (1). A fluorescent discharge lamp containing mercury at low pressure has a fluorescent coating mixture consisting of or including one or more halophosphate powders and a red-fluorescing magnesium germanate powder. Preferably one or more calcium halophosphate powders prepared as described in Specification 592,675 are used, the magnesium germanate powder forming at least 10 per cent by weight of the mixture. In one example the fluorescent coating consists of a mixture of 100 parts by weight of a calcium halophosphate powder constituted to give a " natural " colour, 20 parts by weight of a calcium halophosphate powder constituted to give a blue colour, and 20 parts by weight of red-fluorescing magnesium germanate powder, the mixture producing light of " daylight " quality. In a second example the mixture consists of 100 parts by weight of a calcium halophosphate powder constituted to give a warm-white " colour, and 30 parts by weight of red-fluorescirig magnesium germanate powder. In a third example 100 parts by weight of a " warm white " calcium halophosphate powder are mixed with 50 parts by weight of redfluorescing magnesium germanate powder. The magnesium germanate can be manganese activated and part of the germanium can be substituted by titanium or zirconium as described in Specification 721,993.
