Abstract
644,599. Luminescent materials. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. Aug. 6, 1947, No. 21462. Convention date, Oct. 25, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] A luminescent material consists substantially wholly of a fired mixture of calcium phosphate and potassium chloride, actuated by thallium, the potassium chloride being between 25 and 50 per cent of the combined weight of calcium phosphate and potassium chloride. Preferably thallium sulphate, about 3 per cent of the combined weight of calcium phosphate and potassium chloride, is used in the mixture. Finely powdered tri-calcium phosphate, potassium chloride, and thallium sulphate are mixed, ball-milled in acetone, filtered, dried, and then fired for one or two hours at about 900‹ C. and then re-milled. The material may be used as coating in a fluorescent lamp, emitting radiation in the 2900 to 3100 Angstrom unit range.
