Abstract
519,157. Luminescent materials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BOWTELL, J. N., and JENKINS, H. G. June 13, 1938, No. 17490. Addition to 495,706, [Group XX]. [Class 39 (i)] One or more low pressure mercury vapour electric discharge lamps are used with luminescent material consisting of (i) a material containing cadmium, manganese, chlorine, phosphorus and oxygen, as set out in Specification 495,706, [Group XX], and (ii) luminescent magnesium tungstate or zinc tungstate or both ; the use of these is set out in Specifications 469,732 and 469,913. These materials may be mixed and used in one lamp or may be used in separate lamps, but their association is such that light obtained therefrom contains in one desired direction a substantial proportion of light from each. Vanadium may be added to material (i) as set out in Specification 509,857. Diffusing reflecting or refracting means may be used therewith. A part of the material in (i) may be replaced by zinc-beryllium silicate activated by manganese ; the use of this material is set out in Specification 480,356, [Group XX]. Specification 515,154 also is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification magnesium tungstate is preferable for material (ii), the reasons therefor being set out in Specification 495,415, [Group XX].
