Abstract

514,458. Luminescent materials. FRANCOBRITISH ELECTRICAL CO., LTD., and BRACKENSEY, A. H. May 6, 1938, No. 13617. [Class 39 (i)] A luminescent material for the production of luminescent screens giving substantially white fluorescence in electric low pressure mercury lamps, consists of a mixture of from 70 to 90 parts by weight of activated cadmium silicate, 10 to 30 parts by weight of activated zinc silicate, and 2 to 10 parts by weight of activated calcium tungstate, with or without the addition of activated zinc bervllium silicate. In one example, 80 parts of manganese activated cadmium silicate, 15 parts of manganese activated zinc silicate and 5 parts of lead activated calcium tungstate and 1 to 10 parts of manganese activated zinc beryllium silicate are mixed and ground together and applied as an interior coating of a mercury low pressure lamp. The term zinc silicate includes the zinc orthosilicate and that described in Specification 509,723.
