Abstract

653,576. Luminescent materials. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. June 17, 1948, No. 16368. Convention date, June 17, 1947. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] A luminescent material comprises a bariummagnesium-lead-silicate phosphor in which the ratio of the number of mols. of barium to the total number of mols. of barium plus magnesium is between 1.0 and 0.2, the lead content is between 0.01 and 1.3 mols. and the silicic acid content is between 0.05 and 1.8 mols. per mol. of barium plus magnesium plus an additional mol. of silicic acid for each mol. of lead used. The Specification gives certain preferred compositions within the above range together with manufacturing details and light output diagrams, Figs. 1 to 10 (not shown), produced from tests on numerous samples with calcium lead tungstate as the comparison standard. The fluorescent colour is blue or blue-green. Phosphors according to the invention may be used as the blue-green component when blended with zinc orthosilicate and zinc beryllium silicate in the preparation of daylight fluorescent lamps.
