Abstract

535,585. 2-Chlorobutene-2. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E.I. Oct. 12, 1939, No. 27738. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] 2-Chlorobutene-2 is made by heating 2:3- dichlorobutane to 200‹ to 300‹ C. in the presence of an alkaline earth metal halide, e.g., barium chloride, which may be supported on activated charcoal, silica gel, alumina gel, chips of porous ceramic materials or other supports. In an example activated charcoal impregnated with barium chloride is used as the catalyst. The product is substantially free from other monochlorbutenes, but contains small quantities of butadiene.
