Abstract
745,572. Luminescent materials. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd. Aug. 20, 1954 [Aug. 21, 1953], No. 23162/53. Class 39 (1). Method of preparing activated magnesium arsenate comprises mixing, ball-milling dry and firing in oxygen at 1100-1150‹ C. for 2 hours a compound of arsenic other than the oxide, e.g. ammonium arsenate, a compound of magnesium that will break down to the oxide when heated, e.g. magnesium carbonate, a compound of an activating metal, e.g. manganese carbonate, and a fluorine containing flux, e.g. ammonium fluoride, and then adding a chlorine containing flux, e.g. ammonium chloride, and again ball-milling dry and firing in oxygen at 1050‹ C. for 3 hours. The ratio of magnesium oxide to arsenic pentoxide in the material may vary between 3: 1 and 10: 1, preferably between 7.5: 1 and 10: 1 and is preferably 8:1.
