Abstract

925,634. Luminescent materials and processing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 7, 1962 [Feb. 8, 1961; April 20, 1961], Nos. 4710/61 and 14299/61. Class 39 (1). A luminescent material consists of a combination of the oxides of magnesium, lithium, antimony, silicon, together with lithium fluoride, tetravalent manganese, and the oxide of either silicon or germanium, or both. Additionally, calcium, strontium or barium may be added, as fluoride, and may wholly or in part replace the lithium fluoride. The manganese may be introduced from an aqueous solution of a soluble manganese salt, e.g. manganese chloride, and the oxides may be introduced as the carbonate, the mixture being fired in air at about 1,000‹ C. up to three times, being ground between each firing. The luminescence may be excited by ultra-violet radiation, cathode-rays and X-rays.
