Abstract
1414381 Luminescent materials and uses thereof GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 31 Dec 1973 [1 Jan 1973] 17/73 Addition to 1087655 Heading C4S A luminescent material which is a modification of the material claimed in claim 1 of the parent Specification consists of calcium chlorosilicate, Ca 2 SiO 4 . CaCl 2 , activated by divalent Eu so as to be excitable by U.V. radiation of wavelengths 2537 and 3650 and by cathoderays, the Eu being in amount 0À001 to 0À1 mole per cent of the calcium chlorosilicate. The crystal structure is referred to, the phosphor exhibits rapid rate of rise and decay of emulsion and operates up to 300 C. Detailed preparations are described. Excess of calcium chloride functions as flux. At least part of the heating at at least 600 C. is in a neutral or reducing atmosphere to ensure Eu divalency. Eu: calcium silicate may be preformed.
