688,895. Luminescent materials. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd., and ROTHSCHILD, S. Aug. 14, 1948 [July 15, 1947], No. 18844/47. Class 39(i) At least one of the constituents of a luminescent material is a radio-active element or isotope forming an integral constituent of the phosphor, and not a mechanical addition for self-excitation purposes to an already complete phosphor. Specific examples include the preparation of a SrS phosphor containing the radio-active isotope Sr 90 in the matrix, a silver-activated ZnS phosphor containing the isotope Ag 110 in the activator, and a lead-activated SrS phosphor containing the isotope Pb 214 (Ra B) as activator. The Provisional Specification also refers to the use of the radio-active isotope Cu 64 as an activator for zinc sulphide phosphors. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to the document "Fluoro-chemistry," by Jack De Ment (pages 324-328).
