Abstract

525,134. Luminescent materials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent-Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gluhlampen). Feb. 14, 1939, No. 4857. [Class 39 (i)] Luminescent material is made from willemite -or materials from which willemite is produced by heat-mixed with not more than 20 per cent. of a white sesquioxide, the mixture being heated. In one method pure zinc oxide, pure silica gel, manganese chloride in quantity so that it constitutes 1 per cent. of the mixture and yttria are mixed, made into a smooth paste with water, dried and ground, is reground, reheated and washed with distilled water. The use of lanthana, alumina, boric oxide scandia, ytterbia are mentioned. The compound is used in a discharge lamp wherein the radiation has a substantial component of wave length about 2537 A.U.
