Abstract

745,044. Luminescent materials. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 17, 1951, No. 29539/51. Addition to 691,127. Class 39 (1). The method of preparing a luminescent calcium halophosphate phosphor according to the parent Specification 691,127 is modified and includes the steps of intimately mixing, as powders, ammonium chloride, calcium oxide and/or a calcium compound which is decomposed to the oxide on firing, secondary calcium phosphate, and one or more of the group comprising calcium antimonate, antimony phosphate, antimony chloride, antimony oxide, antimonic acid and antimony compounds which are decomposed to the oxide on firing, substantially all chloride present being in the form of ammonium chloride, and firing the mixture. The calcium compound referred to can be other than the carbonate, in which case calcium fluoride is added to the mixture and antimony fluoride is a possible addition. In the first of the above cases one or more of the group comprising manganese antimonate, carbonate, phosphate, chloride, oxide and compounds which are decomposed to the oxide on firing are also added. In the second of the above cases manganese fluoride is a possible addition. The preparation of the materials is on the lines described in the parent Specification. Specification 684,025 is referred to.
