Abstract
691,127. Luminescent materials. THOR N ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 13, 1950 [Sept. 13, 1949], No. 22551/50. Class 39(i). A method of preparing a luminescent calcium halophosphate phosphor containing combined chlorine as chloride, comprises firing a mixture of ingredients in which substantially all chloride present is in the form of ammonium chloride. In an example described ammonium chloride, calcium carbonate, secondary calcium phosphate, antimony oxide or an antimony salt which can be reduced to the oxide on firing and if desired a manganous salt (manganous carbonate referred to) which can be reduced to the oxide on firing, and calcium fluoride are intimately mixed and fired. Proportions of constituents are given. The gram atom ratio of calcium plus manganese to phosphorus should be about 4.85 to 3 for maximum brightness. The mixture is fired, preferably in covered crucibles, at 1090‹C for 6 hours and the resulting mass is powdered and, if necessary, milled. The secondary calcium phosphate is prepared as described in Specification 684,025. The emission colour is approximately 3500‹K white.
