Abstract
684,025. Luminescent materials. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 7, 1949 [May 7, 1948; April 22, 1949], Nos. 12251/49 and 12252/49. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(i) Secondary calcium phosphate CaHPO 4 is the only source of phosphate in the ingredients for the preparation of an antimony activated halophosphate phosphor. Calcium oxide or a calcium compound yielding the oxide or similar strontium compounds may be added. The mixture to be fired may include manganous oxide or a manganese compound e.g. the carbonate, calcium fluoride or chloride and an antimony oxide or compound, the ratio of calcium and manganese atoms to phosphorus atoms being somewhat less than 5.0/3.0. The preparations of pure secondary calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate and manganous carbonate are described. The preferred atomic proportions are Ca+Mn-4.9, P-3.0, For Cl or both -1.04, Sb 0.05-0.30, Mn 0.00-0.50. The fluorescence is blue when manganese is absent but changes through white to red as the manganese content is increased.
