601,697. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). July 10, 1945, No. 17539. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] Method of preparing a calcium silicate phosphor activated by titanium comprises mixing calcium carbonate and silicic acid in proportions to give in the mixture a CaO to SiO2 molar ratio between 1 to 1 and 1 to 1.1, making a paste by adding to the mixture an aqueous solution of Ti(SO4)2 having a TiO2 content of 0.5 per cent to 1 per cent by weight of the total CaO + SiO2 present, drying the paste and then calcining it in air or steam at a temperature between 1000‹ C. and 1200‹ C. Part of the calcium carbonate may be replaced by calcium sulphate and a small amount of manganese in the form of manganese carbonate may be introduced as an additional activator.
