Abstract

A buff-coloured magnesium ferrite pigment is produced by heating, e.g. at 900-1100 DEG C. a mixture of iron oxide and magnesium oxide or carbonate in the presence of a halide salt catalyst in amount, say, not over 1 per cent. Suitable catalysts are magnesium chloride or the chlorides or bromides of calcium, iron, zinc and sodium. The ingredients may be mixed wet and dried prior to the heating operation.
