Abstract
Cellular concrete is prepared from a mixture of cement, sand, powdered aluminium, sodium carbonate or lime, calcium chloride and water, a preferred mix comprising equal proportions by weight of cement and sand, 0.2 per cent aluminium, 0.65 per cent lime, 2 per cent of calcium chloride and 88 per cent water, all percentages being by weight of cement. Concrete slabs are prepared by mixing the dry cement, dry sand, and aluminium powder, and adding water mixed with lime or sodium carbonate and calcium chloride, the mix being heated, preferably by the use of water having a temperature of about 55 DEG C., and the final mix poured into moulds which are passed into saturated steam curing chambers. Facing materials, decorative surfaces and reinforcements may be applied in the moulds.
