Abstract

A rendering for walls, &c., is produced by applying thereto a paste formed from an aqueous solution of sodium and/or potassium silicates and a dry mix comprising calcium carbonate, e.g., ground marble, at least one barium compound in powder form, and quartz sand. Preferred proportions by weight are 50-60 parts dry mix and 40-50 parts solution. As barium compound there may be used barium sulphate and barium oxide or sulphide, and titanium oxide, asbestos fibres, metallic oxide, or chrome pigments may also be added to the dry mix. The aqueous solution may contain glycerin, especially that formed by fat-processing in the manufacture of soap, and caustic soda.
