Abstract
A mixture for use as a rendering or insulating covering for walls, &c., comprises asbestos fibres, Portland or like cement, and pulverized and activated bentonite i.e. bentonite containing 2-5 per cent. sodium carbonate, water being added to the mixture to facilitate application as a paste. Preferred proportions by weight of the solid ingredients are 30 to 80, 10 to 70, 5 to 30, respectively. Hydrated lime and hydrogen peroxide may be incorporated in the paste to make the covering hygroscopic and to increase its porosity. Oxide or mineral pigments can also be added.
